
I still stand strong that while it is a rather basic ideas, there really isn’t a stand up competitor to the idea of giving your company an evaluation or looking through company evaluations in one spot. LinkedIn is the only major general professional social network that I have actually heard of or see people use. If there are more, they definitely aren’t making themselves well known. The use for LinkedIn seems more to communicate with other professionals in your field and make yourself shown when looking for a job or looking to hire. It’s a good soapbox for that. Rate My Company is not that. Glassdoor is the only site that offers the same content type that Rate My Company would offer, well, a portion.
In my first post describing what Rate My Company would offer it lists specific realms of a company that one could rate or investigate and learn for a company. The areas to serve the users are personal committment, employee communication, community, compensation, the company’s atmosohere and environment, opportunites within the company, marketplace performance, perks, employee recognition and their technological advances.
These tools will offer strong details about a company to give anyone. The idea here is the exchange of information. The ability for people to see what is out there or to add their own commentary with out having to know the other person is what differentiates this from a social network. Glassdoor offers a Pro/Con/Advice review of the company, a spot where interview questions can be posted and salary search. The information defined by Rate My Company would offer those and more in one spot. I used the interview search on Glassdoor based on the two companies I have worked for. The questions were all so basic it was a waste of time to even include. There was nothing I found to be truly informative to add for a company, rather a job search website.
The 3 questions that Glassdoor asks are not very informative and can lead to very bland answers as opposed to a more targeted path that I have outlined for RMC.
